Paws on the Table

                         Moab

If you live in Steamboat Springs, Colorado you most likely:

  • own a dog
  • own two dogs
  • own several dogs
  • are friends with someone who owns a dog
  • are friends with someone who owns two dogs
  • are friends with………….ok you get the idea!

So it’s only natural that I, who own 1 adorable dog named Moab, dedicate a page to our canine pal.

This recipe was adapted from one passed down by a friend for dogs who are on a gluten-free diet.

Moab is not on any special diet – but he was happy to taste test the recipe and enjoyed it!

canoeing anyone?

Moab’s Birthday (or special occasion) Cake

1/2 C Water

1/2 C Vegetable Oil

2 Large Eggs

3 T Natural Creamy Peanut Butter (no sugar or salt added)

2 t Gluten-Free Vanilla Extract

2 1/2 C Gluten-Free Flour (try Arthur’s Flour)

1/2 C Cornmeal

1/2 C Gluten-Free Oats

Blend all wet ingredients. Whisk dry ingredients into this mixture. Wet hands and form sticky dough ball. Roll out and shape in a non-stick (and floured) cake pan.

25 minutes @ 400 Degrees F

Hints:

Turn off oven when time is up and allow cake to sit until crisp, then cool and enjoy!

Store in an air tight container or in wrapped in refrigerator

Food for Thought:

This is a rich and crumbly cake, and although there are even yummier recipes available we found this to be one of the healthier versions. With that said, it’s still rich so small portions only for your canine on those special occasions.

We had more than we needed, so we shared some with canine friends. All gave it a paws up, except for one picky eater who turned up his snout. Hey, you can’t please them all!

I do not endorse or take responsiblity for any websites/recipes. If you want more recipes ideas for your dog you can check out:

Keep in mind that not all ‘human foods’ are safe for dogs,

always do your research before plating it up for Fido.

My first suggestion is to check with your vet. You want to make certain your pet gets the vitamins and nutrients they need. It your cat doesn’t have allergies and you just want to cut down on processed foods Wellness is a wonderful brand and has some healthy foods and snacks for your kitty. htp://www.wellnesspetfood.com/cat-wellness.aspx
Another brand that has wheat free products is Nature’s Logic, although I personally don’t know much about them they seemed to meet your requirements. Good Luck!
